LG Announce the Cookie Fresh

For some a feature packed smart phone isn’t required and instead a phone is to be a device to make calls and send text. Historically this group of people would have opted for the standard numeric keypad form factor with maybe a few tweaks on the design such as flip or slide phones.

The touch screen revolution may now sway these folk into wanting a touch screen device not for internet access, not for email on the move, satellite navigation or even an mp3 player but instead just to keep in fitting with the times.

Enter the LG’s latest effort, the Cookie Fresh, a budget handset with 2MP camera with blue tooth and of course a touch screen. If this is to make it into the business market then it will most likely to be on Vodafone with more details including price to be confirmed

HP buys Palm

Hardware manufacturer HP has purchased Palm who has been up for sale for a couple of weeks.

The combination of the 2 companies injects even more competition as manufacturers fight it out in the great smart phone sales race.

Palm, like Apple and BlackBerry, developed their own operating system where as HP, like Acer and Toshiba, produced hardware for operating systems like Windows Mobile and Android to run on. To now have a power house to manufacturer devices to run on a tried and tested operating system all under the hood of one company will surely mean the boundaries of smart phone design and functionality are pushed even further.

New BlackBerry Pearl to use predictive text input

When the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 hits our shores existing Pearl users may want to note that the European variants are penciled in to be shipped with a predictive text input keypad rather than the suretype keypad.

This could be advantageous to people who want a slim smart phone but couldn’t master the suretype of the previous Pearl models. To those who did master the art then it’s back to the oldskool.

Whether it’s suretype or predictive the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 appears to be pretty impressive and hopefully arrives free of charge on large allowance, low line rental price plans.

The Pearl 9100 seems to be the much awaited return of the slim design with the suretype keyboard with a pimped up specification including 3G and 3.15MP camera.
