Apple iPhone 4 - is it good for business use?

Apple have announced their 4th generation iPhone which will launch in the UK on the 24th June (the same time as it does in the US).

Remarkably thinner than the 3gS version with a larger pixel camera including an LED flash and a new version of software allowing for use with many applications simultaneously (multi-tasking). Above all the new device looks great and if style is your number one priority then this is a must.

But is it a great business tool?

The device lacks some critical functions which would persuade the majority of business customers to stay away,

- No microSD card support so you are lumbered with only the 16gb or 32gb of internal memory depending on which device you went for. Although 16gb is a fair bit of storage, once you are at the limit it's time to start deleting files to create more room. If there was an external card slot like there is in most other smartphones then you wouldn't have this issue.

- No flash player so if you visit a website and it's written in flash or has flash on the page (take for example the BBC website) then the parts in flash wouldn't play and you will not get the full website effect. Flash is available with all other smartphones.

- No physical keyboard so typing emails, instant messages and texts is reliant on the virtual keyboard contained in the capacitive touch screen. Research has shown that business customers with a physical keyboard on their smartphone send more messages.

Although the full costs of the device hasn't been released, you would probably be able to pick up a better business smartphone for far less than you would pay for a glamorous iPhone 4.

O2, Vodafone and Orange have announced that they will be stocking the device by the end of the month
