Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro Review

It seems as though all the handset designers out there are keen to flex their creative muscle with slide out QWERTY keyboard form factors.... think back to the HTC Touch Pro2, LG GW620, Nokia N97, Nokia N900 and the Motorola Milestone all which have been released in the last year or so.

Well here’s Sony Ericsson’s hat in the ring with the Vivaz Pro.

Specification wise it is very similar to the Vivaz but with a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a lower spec camera. It’s a slim Jim as well with 109 x 52 x 15mm dimensions and weighing in at only 117g. The 3.2 inch screen is a resistive touch screen and not capacitive but it does have accelerometer sensors for auto rotation and has built in handwriting recognition software. The internal memory storage is a padded out at 75MB and the microSD card slot can operate with up to a 16GB memory card. Other features of the Symbian Series 60 5th edition operating system device include GPRS, EDGE and 3G compatibility allowing WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, Google maps, Facebook and Twitter integration, MP3 music player and the QuickOffice document reader . Talk time for the battery is upto 13 hours whilst connected to 2G and only 5 hours 20 minutes connected to 3G. The main downside to this device is although it contains a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash this is of a lower specification when compared to the 8 megapixel component that was seen in the standard Sony Ericsson Vivaz.

Hits: Size and weight

Misses: Lower spec camera compared to the older sister

Overall, the device is a descent designed well built machine from a respected handset manufacturer and will appeal to the user who wishes to use text input often in the form of messaging, sms and email
