Dolly the BlackBerry

Cloning your existing BlackBerry mobile device so that the email, calendar and contacts are transfered to your upgraded BlackBerry handheld is easily achieved by following the simple steps below,

Step One

If you haven't already , download BlackBerry Desktop Software to your computer using the link below,

http://uk.blackberry.com/services/desktop/

Step Two

Connect your existing BlackBerry using a data cable to the computer and click the 'Device Switch Wizard' after opening the newly downloaded software.

Step Three

Now connect the new BlackBerry handheld via a separate cable to the computer and select both BlackBerry devices from the relevant drop down menus.

Step Four

Sit back for a few minutes and watch the data being exchanged. At the end you have the option of wiping the existing Blackberry or leaving the information on - this is completely up to you. If you are selling the old device on then it's best to wipe.

Your existing SIM card, in the new device, may be enough for your email address to self register. If this doesn't happen then visit the following link relevant for your network to update the email system with your new device.

Nokia 5230 - Business Review

There are a heap of features in this handset but there's a clear one that make it really stand out, A-GPS navigation combined with Ovi Maps with aerial images, 3D landmarks and terrain view makes this a superb navigation tool. Add to the the 3.2" touch screen and it's time to throw away the stand alone sat nav for your car as you'll now have one just as good built into your mobile handset.

The home screen on the device links directly into Nokia's Ovi Store where you can buy apps, videos and games. You can also access YouTube by clicking on a single tab but connection is reliant on the mobile network as there's no WiFi capabilities built in.

If listening to music is important on your Nokia 5230 then you're ok because the battery has an impressive 33 hours of playback and you can use standard 3.5mm headphones.

New BlackBerry out next month

Take 1 x popular BlackBerry Curve 8520, pimp it up with a better camera and equipe it with 3G connectivity and what do you get?

The new BlackBerry Curve 9300 which has an august release date in the UK.

BlackBerry confirm that the 8520 model has seen the most sales of a BlackBerry device since RIM launched in the last century and they would like to replicate this with the 9300. Our opinion is that it will be a hit but will face tough competition from the BlackBerry Pearl 3G which has now been delayed to fall in line with the new Curve launch.

In our eyes, BlackBerry = business and with 4 device styles out next month you would be hard pushed not to consider this manufature for you next upgrade.

We'll keep you posted on network compatibility and availability

Samsung Galaxy S - is it for business or not?

Is the Samsung Galaxy S a business tool?

Yes - if you are looking for something to view video or picture images on

No - If you want easily accessible email and text functions

Above all it's a nice smart phone with the biggest hook being the 4" super AMOLED screen which gives off enough light you'd be forgiven in thinking it was a projector. It's powered by the Android operating system which is gaining popularity within the business World but still ranked behind the likes of Symbian, Windows Mobile and BlackBerrys operating systems. Other features of the nicely carved device is the ability to shoot HD video and snap photos with the 5 megapixel camera, whiz between applications with it's fast internal processor and expand the 16GB internal memory by another 16GB with an expansion microSD card.

Currently only Vodafone and O2 offer the device with deals starting from,

£30/mth with free handset on Vodafone 750 minutes, 3000 UK landline minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data each month

£33.51 with free handset on o2 600 minutes, unlimited UK landlines, unlimited texts and 750MB data each month

European mobile data usage to be capped

From today, unless you contact your service provider before going abroad to an EU country, you may find that there is a cap to how much data you can use with your mobile device.

Once you reach £40 worth of data then you will have to contact the UK operator to have the limited increased, removed or your bill paid up to allow additional data to be switched. Opting out initially is a better idea for the roaming business person who travels within the EU often and who is familiar with the current charges. OFCOM have also issued guidelines to enforce that you are communicated to by a text message at the point when you are 20% from the cut off point.

Call charges have also been aligned that you will never pay more than 33p per minute to make a call, 12p to receive a call and 9p to send a text... all when within the EU. (except Croatia, Turkey and Switzerland)

Contact your operator today to remove the limit if this would be advantagious to you

Cost of calling and using data within the EU has always been the lowest compared to outside of the EU. Therefore it would be great if this ruling was rolled out to the rest of the World but somehow that seems a long way off if never at all. Our tip is to use WiFi as much as possible when abroad (Starbucks is always free) and if you can't then limit the use of data heavy applications like watching YouTube.
